Think of all the small Chevys over the decades that promised so much and failed to deliver. Their names cascade like a litany of punch lines to bad jokes. The Chevrolet Corvair was undermined when accountants overruled engineers. The company's financial folly sparked the consumer movement. This was followed by the Vega, a car that, unfortunately, suffered from engines that failed after a few thousand miles, while the bodies started rusting at about the same time. It was replaced by the Monza, then the Chevette, and the long-lived Cavalier. Chevy even tried selling the Toyota-built Nova, along with Geos built by Isuzu and Suzuki. It didn't work. So they came back with the compact Cobalt. It was an improvement, but not enough of one.
